Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. —1 JOHN 2:6 ESV
BE BRAVE: What are some places where you are already leading? Thank God for them, and ask Him for even more opportunities.
Downs, Annie F.. 100 Days to Brave (p. 23). Zondervan. Kindle Edition.
The answer to this prompt is quite honestly a tough one for me. I've been in a leadership position at my place of work for over a year now and it's been the most challenging of my professional career.
The truth is that I am exhausted. I can show you my journal entries... most of them are filled with "God, I love that you've given me this opportunity but I'm kind of exhausted."
In fact, just this morning before I cracked open my devotional to read today's reading... God and I were having a moment. Most of it was just me complaining about my struggles. I was praying for Him to make a change. I honestly don't think I'm cut out for it sometimes... so I was praying that God make... a change.
The second I closed my journal I opened up my book. To this chapter:
"Ask God for more leadership opportunities."
Scuse, what? More? You want me to ask... for more chances to lead even though I'm dying in the current roles? You serious?
Being brave doesn't mean you're constantly like "I've got this." Cause let me tell you, ya don't. None of us do. We're not supposed to and we're not even capable of doing so. I can't get through today without God.
I never really pictured myself as a leader. I'm what they call an "ultimate team player." I'm a helper, I just want to support. So when you put me as the bench boss calling the plays... I'm definitely not where I feel I'm supposed to be.
But truly leaning into God means that He is going to ask you to step outside your comfort zone in more ways than you can probably even fathom.
I think people sometimes think that because of my career path, I have it all together or something. Nobody has it all together. I cannot get to the other side of this day without God. My heart is too frail and I am too weak on my own.
I challenge you to truly ask God what He wants for you. Read Annie's book Let's All Be Brave while you're at it. Brave is a process that never stops but I promise you will come to a relationship with God that is the most precious and most special relationship you've ever experienced.
