Jesus answered, ”It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” - Matthew 4:4 NIV

You ever had someone say something nasty about you behind your back? And then someone else feels the need to tell you about it? And I’m not just talking about in high school, I am talking about recently.

Well I have and it stinks. Like a lot. I’m a pepole-pleaser. I have a hard time letting things go and I want EVERYONE to like me. Like everyone.

You know who had a lot of nasty stuff said about Him behind his back AND to his face? Jesus. The ONLY perfect living soul to ever walk this earth was spit on and stoned.

I’m not saying the lies said about us are justified, I’m saying that they’re not at all what we are supposed to believe about ourselves.

People say I’m loud. Okay, what does God say about me?

(He might actually say that I am loud... but only in that He can always hear me).

In fact, during a time of a typically bad string of rumors being spread about me, I decided to google “what does God think about me?” And this is what came up:

According to John 3:16, we are LOVED.

According to 1 John 3:1 we are HIS.

According to Zephaniah 3:17 we are WORTHY.

According to Jeremiah 29:11 we are PURPOSED.

We have to start listening to the only opinion that really matters. Everything else is a lie. And if you’re not sure, write that rumor or that thought and hold it up to those four verses where God writes how He feels about us. Does it align?

I love this quote from the chapter: “It’s hard to believe truth if your mind is flooded with confusion and false stories.”

If it doesn’t align, toss it.

Be Brave: God, tell me the truth of who I am. I'm listening. I want to be free from the lies- do that for me. Rescue me. Bring truth like a waterfall.
