Look For Brave (Day Four)

"The officials were amazed to see how brave Peter and John were, and they knew that these two apostles were only ordinary men and not well educated. The officials were certain that these men had been with Jesus." - Acts 4:13 CEV

The past two days have been wild at work... after four months of waiting, one of our local hockey players Scott Perunovich was awarded his Hobey Baker Award (for you non-college-hockey-enthusiasts, it's the most prestigious award a player can earn).

The banquet was an outdoor, socially-distanced affair in Lake Elmo, MN. I couldn't help but be wowed by Scotty's brave story. Three years as an electric defenseman at UMD, winning two national championships. It could have been three, but Scott's season was cancelled because of COVID.

Talk about heartbreak.

His journey wasn't done taking a twist... Scott spent the summer down in St. Louis training with his new NHL team, the Blues, hoping for a chance to join the team for the NHL bubble playoffs.

Unfortunately, he did not. Not because he wasn't good enough. But because the NHL said no new players would be able to join their teams. (More on Scott's story)

Scott's story was highlighted last night and deservedly-so. But it's important that it was too. Why? So little hockey players can watch this kid that simply worked hard and got to where he was... but even as he poses next to a beautiful trophy... he knows he has a long way to go.

Players like Scott and other athletes put their brave on display every time they step on the ice, the court or the field. They put their brave on display every time they face a camera and face a series of good... and bad questions.

Where do you see brave in your life? In other's lives? They may not get a banquet in Lake Elmo... but you can tell their story and say it inspires you.
