The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of the Philistine

“BE BRAVE: What’s one area of your life where you know you are being brave right now?”
— 100 Days to Brave: Devotions for Unlocking Your Most Courageous Self by Annie F. Downs
Trusting God is brave, ya know. Like really trusting God.
For those that don’t know me, I’m a very opinionated person... I come from a family of two older brothers and an extended family of about 30+ cousins. (I’ve lost count at this point, Larson-clan). My mom has eight siblings. My grandma Inez, God bless her resting soul birthed NINE children with giant heads.
There was a lot of action growing up in my house. Family functions were loud and chaotic and awesome.
Being loud was just in my gene-pool. That being said, I don’t think being opinionated is a bad thing.
But with social media, it is very easy to communicate one’s opinion very quickly and very openly.
I’ll never forget the first Facebook fight I saw. Back when I was going into my first year of high school, my childhood church was going through a church-split. It was over some incredibly sensitive topics that relate to sexuality according to God and the Bible. Watching people who led my Sunday school classes go at it in the comment section broke my heart.
These days you don’t have to go far to see conflict. In fact it’s pretty hard to avoid.
I’ve had to pray and ask God A-LOT about when it’s time to be silent and when it’s time to speak. Because my instinct has always been to speak.
How am I being brave right now? By trying to listen. I’m not saying I am always the best at it, for sure.
I can promise you... God is bigger than social media. His way will always trump the evil that flows through your timeline.
My best advice? Close the laptop, the phone and go spend some time with God. I’m not saying that in a condescending way... I’m saying it because I know I will need to be reminded of it 10-times over.
He’s the only true rescue.
